Xperiential Learning Centre (XLC)

Specialist indoor and inclusive outdoor facility featuring 10 unique adventure facilities. Participants with limited mobility, such as wheelchair users and seniors are able to participate making experiential learning and outdoor education more accessible to everyone.

This centre is also the hub for R&D to testbed solutions for the outdoor education and adventure industry.

Human Performance Lab

Sports Engineering Lab

The Greenhouse

The Greenhouse is a teaching and research facility dedicated to growing plants in naturally ventilated and climate-controlled conditions.
The facility consists of:
A core building comprising a naturally-ventilated greenhouse and a climate-controlled glasshouse
A two-storey laboratory built with containers, which allow precise control of growing micro-climates.
The Greenhouse houses different types of agricultural systems, together with remote and smart monitoring systems for the collection of critical physiological and environmental data.
The Greenhouse also features industry-standard cultivation systems, designed to accommodate the growth cycle of plants and facilitate the smooth supply of nutrients.

Food Innovation & Analysis Laboratory

This laboratory supports teaching and industry research projects in food product development aligned with industry trends. This includes plant-based innovation, alternative protein, food analysis, as well as shelf life extension studies. In addition, the facility leverages advanced food processing capabilities, such as a lab pilot-scale twin screw extruder for plant-based meat analogue production, and analytical equipment to evaluate texture, colour and flavour of food products.

Aquaria/Genetics Lab

Aquaria, equipped with an outdoor air-ventilated facility and indoor temperature-controlled rooms, is used as a dedicated marine science and aquaculture teaching and research facility. The Aquaria features coral tanks, outdoor circular fiberglass tanks, and indoor experimental tanks with ultraviolet light and temperature control capabilities containing a vast array of aquatic organisms, both fresh and seawater. In addition, there is a fully equipped aquaculture genetics lab with equipment for routine molecular biology such as DNA and RNA extraction and analyses, PCR and qPCR.
